How do you adjust the steering gear on an '82 300SD Mercedes Benz?

I did this on an old VW Beetle last year but never on a Mercedes. Also the repair manual omitted this part. It's a recirculating ball power assisted steering unit. Is it done similarly? I see the adjustment screw but what do I need to know about it before I pick up a wrench and a hex key?

ONLY take slack out in the straight ahead posistion. And a 1982 car has other issues that may cause slack. Subframe mounts loose steering gear, tie rods, lower ball joints.

I agree with John, first make sure that there is the problem and if there is than just slack the nut and turn but only a bit, be careful when you tight it back. You might get over tight steering.
