2001 Cavalier green light on right side of instrument panel flashing and clicking 3 times?

The car has a picture of wrench on dashboard when put in gear, then green light comes on and clicks and flashes 3 times. What does this mean?

could mean arcing in the wiring if the flash and click are random, or could mean......what everyone will tell you....that the car needs service. Low fluid levels? ie oil or tranny fluid?
